CASSA

Image
Cassa was rescued from a military Base, where pest control would have removed her. Cassa is a lovely, easy going spayed and vaccinated female. She will do equally well as an only cat or with others. Cassa is great with children. Cassa  will fit with any surroundings due to her easy going nature, from a single companion, or with a young family. Communities Leading Animal Welfare

Image
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, except for our 50 million rescue cats" 🤣🤣🤣 Well. What a year it has been.  We continue to search for Blacky and Winnie, we always will. We actively follow up on any possible sightings. Hoping for a Christmas miracle 🙏  We have met a huge amount of wonderful people this year. Many we now call friends. Passionate about Animal Welfare and wanting to see the UAE gain recognition for being a leader in all things animal related. I'd like to think we can unite individuals and communities in our common goal of driving change. Releasing the burden on individuals, transient to this country, who have spent their salaries and savings on rescuing abandoned and dumped animals. All to often to the detriment of their mental wellbeing. After engaging with rescuers and communities, we've come up with a list of things we think are needed as soon as possible: 1. Active community TNR programs wher...

Al Falah

The Al Falah Cats..... where to start. Day one. 3pm Thursday 28th September 2023 I had been to a known dumping site in the morning with a fabulous rescuer and we picked up Elvis. Dave got home from work at 14.30. We had a chat, had lunch and was considering where to search that evening and what other commitments we had. Our phones started pinging. The most horrify pictures were coming through. Someone had stumbled into a nightmare. Dave and I tried to find out as much information as possible before we set off. It was clear we would need to take some baskets, food and water. 30 seconds after we arrived As we arrived we saw several lifeless bodies of cats. We got out of the car in silence and went to where we could see some movement. Over a very short period of time we had 5 cats. The capacity of carriers our car could fit. Other rescuers started to arrive in the evening. The next few days blurred. Meeting with so many legendary rescuers, people from all the Emirates, cats being pul...

Not about the cats

I fell out with my best friend. My heart is broken. My best friend and I have been besties for over 30 years. I'm lost again. We have become estranged. We pass eachother without acknowledgement or thought. Too busy to care. We have lost track of eachother.  Stressful situations test friendships. You pull together or you pull apart. We've not breezed through life.  We've had huge challenges in the past and worked through it, together.  The balance has always been there though, for good and bad challenges. That balance seems to have tipped. More bad interspersed lightly with tiny bits of good. We are out of sync with eachother and life. I ran away. Not the adult, mature or respectful way to deal with things. My head was fizzing with everything and it was all stuck inside until I popped. Me and my best friend have not been supporting eachother.  We are together alone. Alone is OK. Lonely is not. I wasn't being heard. I wasn't hearing either. This is life.  This is ...

Just a cat

Image
When I was growing up we in the UK, we had a family pet cat. She didn't have a bed, I'm not 100% sure it had vaccines. She had 2 lots of kittens. They were sold to friends and family for £3 each. Then she was 'fixed'. It was just a cat. Now, with the monetization of pet ownerahip and the huge pet industry we look at them differently. We want to give them the best food, best veterinary care, best bed, best toys, best cattery, best of everything, on par with a child's needs. Cats go to therapists, grooming salons and an endless array of support is available. Because we care, the pet industry has shown us the tools we need to be the best owner. Then I don't understand how there are so many abandoned, damaged and broken cats here in the UAE. All the hard sell of "get the best for your cat" , "be a good owner", "buy this, your pet will love you more" is present.  There are lots of unlicensed breeders openly selling. There are still live ...

The clock is ticking

It's been awhile. Not because I haven't needed the cathartic safety of getting my words out, but purely due to time. Never in my life have I been so aware of time. It's running through my hands like water and I just dont have enough ways to catch it. Time spent walking, searching, hoping. Time spent brainstorming, planning, scheduling. Time spent juggling, making do and making up. Time has become my enemy. I've always said spend your time well. If you had 1,140 pounds, dirhams or dollars every day, you would spend wisely. 1,140 is how many minutes there are in a day. Each and every one of those minutes are gifted to us for an unknown amount of time, every day. Every second counts. I am 'spending' my time looking for my boys. Time I would have had to allocate everyday to normal life 'stuff'. Now I'm super conscious of spending it as best I can. Sort and care for all the cats we now have, look after our home, our garden... which is a little worse for w...

House of cards

Day 150 I am starting to feel everything is falling in on me. I need five of me to achieve all the things I want. I want to help as many as I can while prioritising bringing Blacky and Winnie home. They've left such a big hole in our life that we need them to complete us. We are missing them terribly. No less than 150 days ago.  I should check how many cats we have marked off as not being ours. That's awful as everyone of the cats we have looked at doesn't have a home. I know they are well looked after by the colony carers, but our cats loved their soft furnishings. Always on our bed, the sofa or our lap. How will they cope swapping all that for cold desert floors, soon to be hot? With the weather changing my anxiety for finding them, and the worry for all the other cats on the streets is exhausting me. I feel our window of opportunity is closing. Most of my non-searching hours are spent swotting up on policies, procedures and the law regarding animal welfare here. Sadly, t...
