The ripple effect

Image
The ripple effect is the gift from pest control that just keeps giving 😠  The 9th of October 2022 was our last "normal" day.  Since that day we have been on a rollercoatster of hell. I will work through the list of knock on effects which have been caused by our boys being removed. 1. The vacuum effect. (Further reading here:  https://www.alleycat.org/resources/the-vacuum-effect-why-catch-and-kill-doesnt-work/#:~:text=The%20Vacuum%20Effect%20occurs%20when,dip%20will%20only%20be%20temporary. Pest control removing our boys now means we have 6 stray cats out the front of our villa. The neighbours original complaint was to remove strays. Maybe its their karma. We feed and tnr the strays. 2. Noms was ran over. (Further reading regarding death of a bonded pair here:  https://www.thehealthyjournal.com/faq/when-one-of-a-bonded-pair-dies Restricting her to the garden had a huge negative effect on her, especially as she was very closely bonded with Monty. She bolted when she s...

Never giving up

https://www.thenationalnews.com/weekend/2023/02/10/if-your-pet-is-lost-or-missing-please-do-not-give-up-on-them/ Trying to sleep. My brain seems to have the best ideas at bedtime. I'm taking a sleeping pill as I just can't shut down. Worrying about the boys. Worrying about keeping on top of social memedia. Just worrying. My new pastime. I just received a message about a cat which really does look like Blacky. The lady said someone sent me photos before. Now I'm worried I didn't check the photo properly. What if I've dismissed him and its really him? The lady has to show me where he is tomorrow or I would be there now. One more night for him on the streets is one too many. Blacky would always cuddle with us. I say us losely as he preferred Dave. I was his  second choice. Blacky is so affectionate because we had had a 10 year relationship with him. He was ours and we were his.  The last photo I took of him was in bed at 8;45am  the morning he was taken. He was a stree...

To all my boys

The National https://www.thenationalnews.com/uae/2023/02/12/monty-the-lost-cat-of-khalifa-city-returns-home-after-100-days-away/ The boys are in the news again. Only Blacky and Winnie left to bring home now. We are 1 third of the way there 💪  We are so grateful to Nick Webster. I did hound him for help in the beginning, fortunately it paid off and now he has published the follow up for Monty. Just amazing. Our lives all changed abruptly 110 days ago. I used to "potter". I like to paint on canvas. I like to be lazy, bake cakes, google fancy dinners to prepare, play with the boys, sit with them for cuddles. We had a burger king takeaway as we hadn't made time to eat last Saturday. The search party at al shamkah for Winnie was a great sucess. Albeit, we did not find Winnie, however bringing people together for the boys cause was phenomenal. People walking the streets searching. Little batches of food for the strays being sighted. A painfully beautiful experience under the c...

Not quite done yet

Image
We're not done yet! We found Monty! An unbelievable feat considering 100 days had passed since he was cruelly taken and dumped 7km away. Plucked from his life and ours and dumped in a desolate area. He walked 2.3km. Not a bad feat for someone 5 inches tall. A lady in the search party sent a photo of him during the search. We knew immediately it was Monty. They were 3 minutes away from where we were searching. It is an understatment to say Dave and I were euphoric!  Monty was very scared, but softened once we spent some time with him. He started doing his dance which has always endeared us to him. He literally dances with joy. Needless to say it filled our hearts to have one of our boys back. Main thing is that he is healthy. My worst nightmare saw him festering with injury and wounds. Our boy. Happy feet  Physically he is A ok. Mentally he is not himself. Jumpy, twitchy in his sleep, and happy to isolate himself in the bedroom. He calls for me and Dave all the time. He just wa...

Implosion

Image
We are relying on more and more for people to help us. It's taken over 3 months to get the release locations of 2 of our boys. Winnie was collected from Falcon hospital and discarded 10 mins down the road. In the middle of nowhere. Monty was collected once trapped, and taken directly to a dumping ground. In both incidents, the chances of turning left or right will result in them being dead or alive. They are in remote places with large cat colonies close'ish by. If they made it to any of the colonies, we should be able to find them. There are so many people, at their own expense tirelessly trying to clear up the mess from dumped and abandoned cats. It's endless, soul destroying and utterly sickening. There are just too many cats, not only on the streets, but in remote locations where they are sent to die in a slow and painful way.  On our doorstep. No microchip. Ive spoken with several current and ex cat colony carers.  They are mentally, emotionally, financially and physic...
